Grace's 4-5 Months Update


It's been a few months since my last update, and wow how much has changed in that time! As I'm sure you'll all understand, babies are your priority and if you get time to eat or drink then I'd call that a successful day.

Today Grace is 5 months old and I don't need to reiterate just how quickly that time has passed already! My tiny newborn is now a little lady with a huge personality. She has quickly progressed to hitting milestone after milestone and I'm so proud of her.


Grace as of 4 months:

  • Can roll over back to front and front to back
  • Can sit up for a period of time unaided but just needs a little bit of help or distractions to keep her upright
  • Has 2 teeth at the bottom
  • Smiles & laughs (when she's in a good mood!)
  • Doesn't sleep through, it varies from getting between 4-6 uninterrupted hours of sleep but there's no constant pattern
  • Goes to bed between 6-7pm every night
  • As of last week, weighs 16lbs and is currently in 3-6 month clothing and 6-9 month bodysuits
  • Is approx 66cm long
  • Is currently being weaned onto purees and loves all food except peach so far



I feel like I say this with each age and milestone, but honestly, this is the best age so far where she interacts with me and 'talks' back. Time is going too fast and I want it to slow down right now so I can truly appreciate every single moment. Let's see what the next month brings!

Weaning

On Sunday, we began the minefield journey that is weaning. For those of you that are new or haven't kept up with our journey so far, Grace has a suspected Cows Milk Protein Allergy and reflux which has caused her discomfort from birth. Due to this, we've had endless doctors and hospital trips which I am still yet to discuss in depth, but will do another blog post on that soon.

Grace is now 4 1/2 months old (5 months next week) and alongside the advice of her consultant, we've decided to start weaning her earlier than the recommended 6 months guideline. The reason for this is that as she is struggling badly with acid reflux, she's unable to keep liquids down, so solid foods should hopefully balance that out and allow her to be fuller for longer.


You may remember that I mentioned in my last post that we are now part of the Hipp Organic Wean Team for 2016 which allows us to explore a lot of their range. With the help of the Hipp Nutritionist Helen, they have provided us with some of their products suitable for Grace to try out.

For Grace's first tastes, we went with baby rice mixed with her usual prescription milk. Apart from the initial funny faces that she pulled, she absolutely loved it. We did it around lunchtime as this is the happiest time of the day and she's the most alert and it's been working well for her one meal a day. We did that for a further 3 days before progressing onto the latest meal today which was banana mixed with the baby rice. To allow us to see any possible reactions, we're allowing 48-72 hours between each single ingredient puree before moving onto another flavour.



We're going to try carrots, parsnips and sweet potato next and take it from there. We have a lot of recipes lined up and I can't wait to get cooking lots of things for her as cooking in general is completely new to me! I'll keep you all updated with our journey to see how well Grace gets on with her dairy free diet.

New Years Goals

Now that 2016 is in full swing, I've been having a thought about what I want to achieve this year. I'm not usually one for New Years Resolutions, as I'm always destined for failure. But this year, there's a lot of things to tick off my list so I'm hoping by writing them down and publicly, it'll motivate me to stick to them!


  • Put my phone down more. It's too easy to multi-task when spending the days with Grace and I'm guilty of feeding whilst texting and browsing. I feel guilty that she doesn't always have my undivided attention so this year I vow to see the memories through my eyes, not just through my camera lens. My husband also has even less time with me so for his sake, I vow to put down my laptop and phone and spend quality time together.
  • Stay hydrated. A common one, but one that is well needed. During pregnancy I had a better excuse to stay hydrated and in the heat, it was far easier to keep drinking water. Now that Grace is here. I've been slack with it and forget to drink a lot of the day.
  • Get dressed every day. Another one that you must think what, you don't get dressed every day? Having a baby means most days are spent in my pyjamas when we don't leave the house. A simple one that makes me feel better, as well as not scaring the delivery drivers quite as much.
  • Comment on and read more blogs. I've been out of the loop since Grace was born, not having much time to sit on Twitter for hours on end or read blogs anymore. But now I am finally managing my time better, I want to get back into reading blogs again. 
  • Make more of an effort. A general one but I've been super lazy the last quarter of the year and need to change. It ties in with the other goals quite well.
  • Keep fit. An obvious one every person has each year I'm sure. I need to shift the excess baby fat and put down the fatty, quick energy snacks. 
These are my main ones, with a few other personal ones in between too. I'd love to read your New Years Resolutions to give me some inspiration for any that I'm lacking!

Exciting Announcement!

Happy New Year everyone! It's a massive cliché but 2015 has been the fastest and best year of my life to date. I started off the year changing careers and becoming self-employed as a Makeup Artist, getting married and met my baby girl Grace for the first time.

2015 was filled with lots of baby purchases, lovely walks in the amazing summer that we had (but I couldn't enjoy properly!) in our new surroundings, lots of Yo Sushi dates, bump updates and spending alone time with myself before getting ready for a busy life as a mum.


As a result of being so busy, my blog has seriously suffered which I am sad about; but like with every new year, I have vowed to make a variety of regular posts as one of my resolutions. I have lots of exciting things in the pipeline to write about and am finally getting used to time management as part of being a new (ish) mum.

I have an exciting announcement that ties in with my new start for the year and I've been bursting to tell you all, I am now part of the HiPP Organic Wean Team, a 12 month blogger programme which will follow every step of Grace’s weaning journey. This begins with Grace's firsts tastes of solid food, to gradually increasing to varying textures. It's an exciting step to take and makes me realise my baby is no longer the tiny baby she was only a short time ago!

Just in case any of you aren't aware with the brand, HIPP Organic is a family run company which was created by Joseph Hipp, who in 1899 created the rusk after his wife had difficulty nursing their twins. They have a huge range of 150 products in the UK including milks, cereals, tray meals and pouches.

As many of you may know already from my Instagram, Grace has a suspected Cows Milk Protein Allergy, which we have eliminated from her diet once diagnosed and she is on prescription milk. As a side effect from the allergy, she also has reflux, which causes her a number of issues on a daily basis. One of the ways of hoping to alleviate this pain is to wean early. Alongside the advice from Grace's Consultant and Dietician, we are planning to wean early once we have the relevant information on what Grace can eat.
