Disappointing Products

It's not often that I share the products that disappointed me on the blog, but sometimes my first impressions that I share on the blog may not stay as positive.

Seventeen Stay Time Primer was one that I picked up on a whim in the airport. I realised I forgotten to pack a primer and saw this, which was fairly new at the time. It comes out pretty dark, which isn't ideal when you're as pale as I am. It blends out, but not enough for my liking and the texture is horrible. Once I start to blend with my fingers it starts going patchy and even worse once I apply my foundation over the top.

L'Oreal Miss Manga Punky Mega Volume Mascara. I really hoped for good things from this mascara, since I saw how well the regular Miss Manga mascara did. Unfortunately, it wasn't for me. It gives me the worst spider lashes and smudges on my lids every time. It's not for me, but if you love voluminous lashes, then maybe give this one a go.

I steered well clear from the hype when Maybelline Baby Lips first came out, and wish I never bought it too.As a huge fan of Burts Bees, there isn't much that compares and I expected better things from this product. The colour is great actually and looks natural on the lips, for reference I got shade Pink Punch. Formula wise, it feels very silicone and is far from moisturising. I end up wiping it off every time and applying regular lip balm. Shame since the packaging is pretty cute!

Another Maybelline product is the Superstay 24hr Bold Matte Lip Color. This was one of those impulse buys when you're in Boots and spot a 3 for 2 offer and need a third item. The colour is a really pretty, very bright fuschia. The product claims to not transfer and last for up to 24 hours, extremely bold claim. Whilst I wouldn't ever need 24 hours wear, it does last a long amount of time, too long though in my opinion. Since I went for the matte version, it wasn't moisturising so my lips got very dry within a short amount of time of wear. Sadly this one will end up being neglected in my lipstick collection.

Yet another well hyped product was the Clinique Chubby Stick. I got this mini size as a sample with a magazine and I must admit, I did buy simply for the freebie. As much as it feels more moisturising than most stick products, it isn't very pigmented and so feels more like a regular lip balm. For the price, I hoped for more.

Finally, True Match Foundation. When I first purchased this, it was great for my skin tone and type. Fast forward time and this is no longer the right shade nor right for my skin, even non-pregnant. It's exrtemely drying and patchy, resulting in an uneven base once I apply products over the top. Lots of people rave about this, so I'm sure that it's a winner in some eyes, but not for me.

What do you think about the products I chose? Do you love any of these products?

  1. I was so disappointed by the Baby lips, they just felt like something you'd get in a Christmas gift set when you're about 10! x

    1. Yes! Great description. It seems we're not the only ones that think so either! x

  2. I love my chubby sticks, but you are right. They're not anything special considering the price. Thankfully, I got mine in a duty free travel set, so I didn't end up paying that much for them.

    1. Yeah I'm glad I got mine for free too otherwise I'd be pretty annoyed. They're ok though for travelling since they're so compact x

  3. I know what you mean about the Baby Lips - everyone went crazy for them at the time but I don't think they're anything special x

    1. I know, I still see some positive reviews about them so know that not everyone hates them clearly. But I won't be purchasing any other shades x

    1. Thanks, Katie! Yes it is a shame, I was really disappointed and it'll end up drying out and being thrown to the back of my makeup stash x

  6. I agree with you on Baby Lips! I was so excited about them but they weren't hydrating at all. Completely over hyped xx

    1. Definitely, such a shame as I actually quite like the packaging and brand generally but seems people will still pick them up for £2.99 x

  7. I was disappointed with the chubby stick and the True Match foundation for exactly the same reasons. The chubby sticks left hardly any colour on my lips and I found it wore off quite quickly. I got mine free with a mag so I'm not too bothered but I'd expected a better product from Clinique.
