Getting my high street rant off my chest

I'm not one for publically ranting, but in private yes, quite often. This has fuelled me on recently by a very bad, awkward, customer service that I received last weekend that has been on my mind a lot. I didn't know whether to actually post this, but either way it feels good to get it off my chest, literally, that's the topic of conversation today people.

Due to all the sales going on recently, I wanted to take full advantage and go sale shopping, for bras. Simple, some may say. After last weekend, I can vouch that I will not be doing that in public ever again. So, off I popped to the Trafford Centre with my boyfriend and got some other bits and stopped via La Senza which is also near Boux Avenue (both lingerie shops if you aren't familiar with the brands). I hate being hassled but the lady at the front of the shop immediately bombarded me as I entered the shop. Usually I presume they must think I'm going to shoplift or something, but she was quite friendly so I explained what I was looking for size etc. She then changed her tone immediately. She followed with "Erm, okay could you please remove your jacket so I can double check your size?" Of course, I removed my jacket so she could check my measurements over my top. "Sorry, I think you'll find you won't be able to shop in this store." Er, WHAT?! I asked why and she explained, the biggest size La Senza go up to is a DD. Since when?! Has this always been the case?! I was infuriated but left feeling frankly, excuse the next part, pissed right off!

I just don't understand why they have a limit on DD. Understandably, it isn't average but with so many people having boob ops these days and generally bigger chests, why can't they add a bit extra of material for us larger cup ladies. It puts me down a lot when I can't even find bras that fit without spending a fortune, when some people can walk into Primark and get one, granted not great quality, but it's the accessibility that would be nice.

Now La Senza's attitude wasn't that great and she could have put it more politely and I know it wasn't her fault, but I wish there was someone I could write to and say why don't you do bigger sizes?! Anyway, I took the La Senza staff's advice and went into Boux Avenue hoping for some help. Nope, a similar thing happened. I got approached, asked my size, every single bra I liked I got "Sorry we don't have your size, you could try somewhere else?". No, the point is, I came in your shop, hoping to purchase something I need.

I know I can easily go into Debenhams or even M&S to get a bra, but they are so much more expensive than "average" sizes. I'm pretty sure the same sort of thing happens with larger clothes sizes and I see their point entirely, likewise brands that say we have no need to stock larger clothes/lingerie sizes but I just wish they'd listen to the customers sometimes. You can't please everyone I know, but La Senza/Boux Avenue, please take note that not everyone is your average bra size!!

I know where your coming from, but it's not only bigger chests that get this :/ I really struggle finding my size and also can only buy from M&S and Debenhams and they only stock my size in boring colours, I have no choice of pretty bras what so ever. I'd prefer to be bigger chested as I know so many specialist bra designers that make really pretty bras of bigger chests only, many are stocked in Debenhams. Because my back is so small, pretty bras just don't exist :(

  2. I completely agree it can be the opposite end, I used to be a 28 and 30 bra size and it was horrendous, I'm thankful I've filled out a bit now, although too much. It's a shame, should we create our own?! haha x

  3. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I can't stand having to buy awful looking bras because I'm larger than normal. I don't have the money to spend £25-30 on a bra which means I only have ONE bra right now, it really gets me down. I've had the same experiences in places like this but also in MARKS AND SPENCERS!! The woman measured me and said 'sorry but you'll never find a size in here, off you pop.' I felt SO abnormal :'(

  4. Oh dear! Seems I'm not the only one! It's awful isn't it, why do we have to have such ugly bras?! Such a shame really as I'm pretty sure it doesn't cost much surely to make bigger bras? x

  7. I thought I'd bought from them before but I couldn't double check as their site is down and she explained they've had tons of changes since they got bought out by another company. There's no need to be rude in any shop but just wish I could find something to fit my needs. Hmpf :/ x

OMG! That was so rude of her, I have always thought their sizes went over a DD as I have seen bigger sizes in store. I just can't believe she said that, I work in retail and would never dream of saying something like to that anyone!

That must be so frustrating for you, but you go girl! Don't apologise for ranting, if it wasn't for people pointing it out then people like me wouldn't even realise! Cute blog by the way :)

Some (not all, some are fabulous!) sales people seem to have forgotten how to have any respect at all. I'm 22 and constantly get foul look from older sales people - did they forget that they were young too once!

As a sales assistant if I cannot find a suitable product for the customer (I work in a shoe store) I always recomend a few other stores that I know will be suitable.

  12. Thank you! :) That's true, that's what blogs are for (other than ranting!) haha x

  13. I can imagine, we were all young once. I get the same from pretty much everywhere as I look much younger than I am! Always nice to be helpful, but rude is another matter! x

  14. I can't say much for La Senza, but I've always had a good experience with Boux Avenue in the Metro Centre, Gateshead. I can't believe how rude these SA's were to you, especially since Boux Avenue do in fact offer sizes bigger than DD!

  15. I know, I think perhaps that day they was just out of stock, but even so, ruuude! Boux avenue were great last time so really put off now! x

  16. Omg thats terrible! They used to do bigger sizes I know for sure because my Mum shopped there. They wore bought out at the start of the year though and it's all been done up now. Did you notice?

  17. Same thing happened to me recently! I used to always shop, for years and years at La Senza as it was the only place I could get lower priced bras in my size and I went in last week and they said they were only selling sizes up to a DD and no longer doing bigger sizes! I was sooo pissed off. Have you found anywhere else to get decent priced bras? x
